An insulin pump is a Class III medical device designed to mimic physiological endogenous pancreatic insulin secretion via Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII). It continuously delivers micro-doses of rapid-acting insulin to maintain stable fasting and inter-prandial blood glucose levels. Prior to meals, patients can manually program and administer bolus insulin based on carbohydrate intake to effectively control postprandial glycemia.
